Spanish Highs logoSkijoring with a dog in the Sierra Nevada

A tentative plan to introduce this sport into southern Spain!

Initial attempts and why? 15 May 2008

Ok, it was just an idea. Sounded great. Get a husky and train it to pull us uphill on skis. It's a large and growing sport evidently in North America and Scandanavia. Well we may live in the driest part of Europe, but if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for us. Right? Couldn't be too hard to train a husky because that's what they do isnt it?

So last year off we went and bought a husky. Nice little chap, called Khumbu after the famous glacier and icefall at the foot of Everest. Butter wouldn't melt in his pretty little mouth! We had this idea that we could introduce skijoring into southern Spain through Spanish Highs Mountain Guides activity holidays.

This year the training has begun in earnest. As can be seen from the publicity photos here all looks to be going to plan. The reality is actually very different. Have a look at our small video we shot today in the Sierra Nevada. View here(excuse the camera work!)

Ooops! I guess it's back to the drawing board or the trainers to the Granada dog training school?
